Wow, it seems like yesterday I was taking my toddler to MOPS but today it's my daughter's turn with her first born son, and my grandson, Zachary. I wanted to go to the MOPS tea after my daughter invited me, but it meant a two hour drive over two mountain passes one way. I thought about how badly I wanted to go and decided there was no reason not to go, and went. What a great time we had. MOPS is still the powerful ministry I remembered!
The two speakers who gave their testimonies were Asher Collie, founder of Soul Hope and local speaker and Mom, Kate Sheldon.

Kate Sheldon, local speaker and co-speaker at the tea, is a bright light in the Vail Valley. I loved the outfit, short short skirt, leggings, vintage sweater and large cross necklace! Too cute.
The beautiful, enormous hats below are made out of large, brown paper grocery bags. Aren't they beautiful?

Delicious food, a variety of pasta salads, tea sandwiches, egg salad and cucumber, sweet treats and good conversation. Divine!

Last week the Wardrobe Mistress and I decided to enter the dressing challenge from 40+Style
"How to Wear a Boxy Jacket"!
We went to the closest thrift store, Mountain Thrift benefiting Disabled American Veterans.
We spent an hour there, had a ball and came up with two outfits which incorporate a boxy jacket.
This dressy casual outfit starts with a red vintage Ann Taylor Loft boxy jacket paired with a comfortable polyester shirt and printed shirt with black lacy camisole. Entire outfit plus and accessories are from the thrift store.
Total Cost: $16.94
The Wardrobe Mistress chose casual grey knit boxy jacket and paired it with a fun and printed skort dress and wore it with leggings and nude shoes. She accessorized the outfit with a bright yellow scarf! Nude shoes elongate the legs.

The Wardrobe Mistress bought the grey jacket and another identical one in navy blue. I bought the skirt, top and necklace. We found the boxy jackets extremely comfortable but no necessarily all that flattering to our figures. The Wardrobe Mistress believes they are best left to the pear shape figure.

I have purchased several of the recommended products. I particularly like the Bobbi Brown Moisturizing Balm Foundation and the Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm. I substituted or recycled similar products in my possession for ones I could not find. I had never before used a Dermablend product and I especially liked the way it diminished imperfections in older skin.
This video was inspiring, giving me confidence that glamour is still within our grasp as we age!

Jeanie May finds herself in the unenviable position as caregiver to her ailing husband with home healthcare workers coming and going early in the morning several mornings a week. Jeanie May is up frequently during the night, as her husband requires. Jeanie May's twenty-eight year old grandson has come from out of state to help out. She is not comfortable in the mornings wearing her P.J.'s and robe with her grandson, especially without her bra. In addition, last minute unexpected demands by her husband on her time she finds is she not presentable by the time the home health workers ring her bell. Comfort, ease and eliminating any unnecessary steps in the morning are her primary priorities and this includes her desire not to wear a bra as her back tires easily with caring for her husband. Cost is also a concern. As an interior designer color, texture and design are important to her and she wants to look her best even under these trying circumstances. What is Jeanie May to do?

The Wardrobe Mistress and Jeanie May went shopping while Grandson, Elias took care of Grandpa.
First stop, Rite-Aid Who knew Rite-Aid can fill both fashion and medicine prescriptions!
Knock-Off Tom's for $3.24! The Knock-Off Tom's came in multiple muted colors. We found that prices varied from one Rite-Aid to another, some locations were priced just under $6.00. Also, from Rite-Aid, a sleeveless vest for $10.00. Purchased slightly larger than necessary which allows Jeanie May to go braless without causing distraction, which she did in the 1960's! Shirt, sweat pants and belt were all purchased at the local thrift store for under $10.00. Total cost for the complete outfit pictured below, less than $25.00 with tax! Jean also purchased a long pair of lounge pants plus a shorter pair along with the pair of capris, pictured. Jeanie May returned the following day and purchased another vest in a different color. Jeanie May found wearing the Knock-Off Tom's with socks for the first couple of days broke them in easily.
Jeanie May is now ready to go when she pops out of bed in the morning, even if the night was a tough one. She can throw on her belt, vest and shoes and start her day. Running late when the the home health workers show up? No problem, apply lipstick and answer the door!
I bought a new spool of white thread, today. As I fought with the label on the top of the spool of thread to find the starting end of the thread, I thought to myself, I bet there are women out there who don't know how to "open" a spool of thread! And it would take some time to figure out.
So here it is, look at your new spool of thread closely and you will find a "notch" in the edge around the spool. Lift up the label by the "notch" and you will find the starting thread for the spool!
